The River Keeper

I recently wrote and recorded a song called The River Keeper inspired by the grim story of the pointless destruction of the beautiful falls in downtown Almonte, Ontario… The song is specifically about that story but also generally addresses the importance of vocal, active protest and the sincere hope that it does not get lost between generations…

Anyway– I recorded a quickie version in my basement you can hear here:

And then my friend Allan Brown (Foolish Heart) and several of his friends recorded a pretty special version of it… This is the first time anyone has recorded a cover of one of my tunes– It is special to me for that reason, but even more so because Allan himself was the inspiration for the song to begin with by sharing the story with me.  Unfortunately, those warm fuzzies are tempered with a healthy shot of disappointment this time as the dam that inspired the protest and the song happened anyway… I wish every story could have a happy ending, but I guess that’s another story for another song…
